Project Overview
This vibrant six-storey building at the base of Main Street in Vancouver is a blend of residential and commercial spaces, featuring two full floors dedicated to retail. The second floor houses a lively childcare center, its presence highlighted by playful, colorful stripes adorning the building’s façade. At the southern corner, a welcoming public plaza invites community gatherings, complemented by a cozy café.
The design adheres to the six-storey limit set by the Mt. Pleasant Community Plan. The architectural concept balances the robust street wall of Main Street with whimsical elements like a glass elevator, particularly around the childcare facility on the second floor, which faces south and east.

As the building turns the corner onto 4th Avenue, the massing of the south elevation gracefully dissolves, creating a dynamic and engaging series of forms. This design not only enhances sunlight penetration to the childcare center and the corner plaza but also introduces a smaller, more intimate rhythm that seamlessly transitions into the quieter 4th Avenue neighborhood.
The building’s light-colored, panelized structure, resembling a series of pixelated boxes, is further enlivened by the sporadic addition of colorful vertical louvers, adding a touch of vibrancy and charm to the overall aesthetic.
